#FindingsFriday: ISO 45001:2018 - Clauses 6.1.2 Hazard identification and 8.2 Emergency Prepardness

The Finding

A Fire Risk Assessment has not been carried out at the newly acquired premises. There is no fire alarm system, emergency exits have not been identified and no emergency lighting has been installed.

Some Context to the Finding

A provider of Industrial Rope Access Systems had moved premises shortly before their Stage 1 assessment to ISO 45001, the health and safety Standard.

The assessor identified the fact that no Fire Risk Assessment had been carried out. Consequently, no fire safety control measures had been identified and implemented either.

Action taken to address the finding

  • A Fire Risk Assessment was carried out.

  • All fire safety actions were added to a maintenance schedule to ensure that they would be completed in future.

Lessons to take from this finding

  1. Remember to reassess risks when moving to new premises.

  2. Ensure that all relevant fire safety controls are identified and managed within the planned preventive maintenance schedule.
