How The Brittas Empire is getting ready for the Paris Olympics…with Mango!

Gordon Brittas strode into Whitbury New Town Leisure Centre, polishing the door handle gently as he passed through it.

“We can’t be too careful with cleanliness, Carole…,” he said, walking over to reception.

“No, Mr Brittas,” said Carole.

He clasped his hands behind his back, and pushed out his chest. On his blazer was a Team GB crest from the 2012 Olympics.

“I’ll never forget my time coaching Britain’s elite athletes,” he said, wistfully.

“Whenever the Olympics comes around, like this month’s games in Paris, it brings it all back…”

Carole smiled: “Which sport did you coach again, Mr Brittas?”

“The noble sport of archery, Carole. The twang of the bow and sound of the arrow in flight. Wonderful!” he replied.

Carole smiled again: “And did we win a medal, Mr Brittas?”

Her boss bristled: “No, we did not. Sadly strings twanged until they broke and the arrows flew outside the target area. I’m sure the team is hoping to actually be on target this summer!”

Carole nodded and went on: “Mr Brittas, we need to talk about health and safety for our own Whitbury New Town Olympics…

“Laura has organised all the necessary public liability insurance for the event, and Colin has trained the rest of the staff to meet the council’s requirements.”

Mr Brittas looked pleased.

“Good, good! We wouldn’t want anything to go wrong like four years ago. We’ve ensured the javelin competition is now far enough away from the long jump…”

Carole nodded: “Yes, near miss, that…It’s going to lead to a lot more paperwork than usual. Colin’s worried it might even constitute a fire risk…”

Mr Brittas waved his hand to reassure her.

“I’ve been talking with my friends at Penarth Management who have helped me find the perfect software to help us manage our compliance for our sporting events,” he said.

“We just need a little Mango…”

Carole laughed nervously: “Are you feeling well, Mr Brittas? Or hungry? I have a little stewed apple for the baby, but no mango…”

Mr Brittas laughed.

“No, Carole, the online compliance software called Mango! It allows us to keep all our documents in the cloud so they don’t have to clutter up Laura or Colin’s offices. It also allows us to access our information from wherever there’s an internet connection.

“It’ll help in our day-to-day running of the centre, too. Plus, we all know we’re soon to get new duties to help protect the public under Martyn’s Law. That’s the legislation named after the Manchester Arena victim Martyn Hett.”

Carole nodded: “Yes, Mr Brittas. Leisure centres like ours will need to ensure adequate staff training, a detailed risk assessment, and good communication in the event something does happen.”

Mr Brittas said: “And Mango will help us manage all that. We’ll get you trained up in how to use it.

“One more thing, though. I’m glad to see you’re no longer bringing your children to work and hiding them in the drawers. Not exactly good for health and safety!”

Carole laughed nervously: “No, Mr Brittas. There’s also no need now Mrs Brittas has started the staff crèche.”

Mr Brittas nodded: “Good to know! Now, I must get in, Carole. I have to help Tim blow up some basketballs…”
